Report for Monday January 31st 2005

After receiving numerous calls about the conservancy being breached at Success on the East Coast, we decided to pay the area a visit to see if this was indeed true, fortunately it turned out to just a rumour but what we did notice was that a lot of the floodwater has been pumped out of the lower East Coast villages. There are still some areas on the lower East Coast which are still flooded out and Atlantic Gardens was one of them, I wanted to drive in to get a better view of the area but the water was too deep for my car and I was forced to turn back. The main road at Better Hope that was totally flooded out looked a lot better today, gone are the boats that were need to get residents in and out.

Reports reaching us indicates that the Mahaica area is suffering from serious flooding due to the quantity of water that is being discharged from Conservancy into the Mahaica creek.

I also spoke to a resident of Enterprise who was in Georgetown today to actually buy an outboard engine to assist villagers in that still flooded out community. He told me that there is still some five to six feet of water in most parts of Enterprise. We will try to visit that area soon to bring you shots of the flooding there. Bryan Mackintosh
